Travelling is always an adventure. Especially when you take the train from Ingolstadt to London - back to the roots and the homeland of the railway. This experience gave us a foretaste of the underground system in the island´s capital. |
||||||||||||||||||||
|
The rooms of our typical British hostel gave us the feeling of being on a camping holiday. But our topmost intention was to see, hear and taste as much as possible of the heart of London. |
||||||||||||||||||||
|
Thus we enjoyed a varied and pleasant programme - planned by our two leaders Mrs. Escherle and Mr. Stolz. During a sightseeing tour of London on the first morning we had the chance to get an overview of London’s famous buildings. Westminster Abbey, the Tower, the London Eye and Buckingham Palace passed our way. Of course we enjoyed “fish and chips” for lunch. In our free time we went shopping - or just strolled through Harrods, which was an adventure with living cats and dogs on the 7th floor. And we were lucky: it wasn´t raining cats and dogs! Another trip led us to Madame Tussauds - the waxworks world of the rich and famous. But it was also very creepy to meet live ghosts in the Chamber of Horrors! |

|
Britain without the Queen is absolutely impossible! So we joined the famous parade of the Changing of the Guard and could develop a feeling for the royal tradition. |
||||||||||||||||||||
|
Modern art was presented in the Tate museum where we spent one afternoon. In the Tower, the famous prison in the heart of London, we had the opportunity to take in Britain’s “bloody history”, presented by the Beefeaters. Fortunately we didn´t lose anyone there. |
||||||||||||||||||||
|
We also walked on Shakespeare’s path: we visited the Globe, Shakespeare’s famous theatre (some of us saw “As You Like It” in the evening there), where a lady gave us wonderful explanations. “The Lion King” musical was a special highlight for everyone. |
||||||||||||||||||||
|
A glimpse of Britain’s Nightlife and customs shouldn´t be missed: a Guinness or Lager in a typical British pub with rugby and football games on TV! An ideal opportunity to make friends! |
